Big Harvest August!
The giving garden has been buzzing with activity over the last 3 weeks with several large volunteer groups, who have really pitched in to help harvest all of the wonderful tomatoes, squashes, green beans, and kale you have been seeing on distribution day. I hope everyone has had an opportunity to take home some of the delicious organic produce that the TVG garden team has been growing for you.
Garden program volunteers have harvested an estimated 1,888 lbs of produce during the months of July and August. At least this is the amount that has been reported to us.

Volunteering is fun! Thanks for coming to the garden and giving your time!
Andrew Jean-Baptiste - from the Portland Timbers
http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/08/2013-stand-together-week-day-seven-harrison-park-sun-school-farms-gardens-moreLast week was a very busy week in our garden with lots to do. Fortunately the community really stepped up to help us out. On Thursday 12 youth members lead by Whitney Lynch from the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation organization came out to help. They did a great job and ask a lot of questions about plants and food. We hope all these kids will benefit from the experience.
On Friday 20 students from Pacific University's Pharmacy School helped out in the garden for their annual volunteer event. This is the second year they have volunteered at the garden. Thank you to the pharmacy school students for all of your help. We got a lot of work done that day and TVG would also like to thank you for your generous financial donation of $200.
Saturday was also a big day for community volunteerism as many other volunteers came out to support local organizations. Saturday's volunteers came out as part of the Portland Timbers “Stand Together” week and to support their favorite Timber Andrew Jean-Baptiste who also volunteered his time in the garden. This is also the second year that the Timbers have come the garden for their annual event.
TVG sends out a very special thank you to Hands On Greater Portland for organizing not only the Timber's event, but for making community volunteerism really cool.
Bruce Gardiner of TVG gives community youth members some information about tomatoes and kale and some additional instruction on how to care for, harvest and prepare these foods.
We appreciate you choosing our garden for day 7! Community Volunteers came out to the garden in support of the The Portland Timber's "Stand Together Week". The event was in partnership with Hands on Greater Portland who make volunteering easy, fun, and look really cool.

Another fantastic day with the pharmacy students from Pacific University. TVG loves it when they come out to the garden. This is the second year they have come out to support us. We look forward to seeing them again next year.
